Your dentist says you need a tooth crown. Next, you'll want to know how much it costs.

In Nepal, prices can vary widely from one clinic to the next. One quote might be NPR 8,000. Another might be NPR 25,000. The crowns can look alike on paper. What changes is the material, the lab and the treatment around the crown. This guide to dental crown prices in Nepal covers the types of dental crowns and their costs, so you can review a quote with confidence.

Dental crown price in Nepal

The dental crown price in Nepal starts from about NPR 6,000 for a basic metal-ceramic (PFM) crown and reaches NPR 25,000 or more for zirconia, eMax, or porcelain. These are starting prices that clinics in the Kathmandu Valley list for 2026. They are not fixed rates.

Your cost depends on the tooth, the material, and any work needed first, like a root canal. Ask for a written treatment plan that shows the price of each step.

Dental Crown Price in Nepal at a Glance

- PFM (Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal) Crown: NPR 6,000–13,000

PFM crowns have a metal base covered with porcelain. They are one of the more affordable crown options and have a long history of use in dental treatment. They may be considered when cost is an important factor.

- Zirconia Crown: NPR 18,000–25,000 or more

Zirconia crowns are made from a strong, metal-free ceramic material. They are often considered for back teeth because of their strength and can also provide a natural-looking appearance.

- eMax Crown: Starting at NPR 20,000

eMax crowns are made from glass-ceramic and are known for their natural appearance. They may be considered for front teeth, where matching the appearance of natural teeth is especially important.

- Porcelain Crown: NPR 15,000–25,000

Porcelain crowns can provide a natural-looking finish and are available in different forms. The final price depends on the specific material used and the dental laboratory's work.

Please note: These are approximate starting prices based on other clinics' listings on WhatClinic from early 2026. They are not Dynamic Dental Clinic's prices. Actual costs may vary depending on the crown material, the tooth being treated, laboratory charges and any additional dental treatment required.

What is a dental crown?

A crown is a cap that covers a damaged tooth. It goes over the whole visible part, down to the gum line. It gives a weak tooth strength and brings back its shape.

A dentist may suggest one for:

Don’t mix a crown up with a veneer. A veneer is a thin shell on the front of a tooth, mostly for looks. A crown covers the entire tooth and is meant to protect it. The American Dental Association has plain-language guides to dental care at MouthHealthy.org.

Types of dental crowns and the dental crown price in Nepal

The type of crown does the most to change the price. The table above shows what clinics list as their starting price for each one. Here is how they differ.

PFM crown price in Nepal

PFM means porcelain fused to metal. A metal base is covered with a layer of porcelain. It is the lowest-priced of the common crowns, at about NPR 6,000 to 13,000, and dentists have used it for a long time.

It has one weakness. After some years, a thin dark line of metal can show near the gum. That’s why people often pick PFM for back teeth, where it is hard to see.

Zirconia crown price in Nepal

Zirconia is a hard white ceramic. A zirconia crown has no metal, so there is no dark line. It does not chip easily, which suits back teeth that chew all day.

The zirconia crown price in Nepal is about NPR 18,000 to 25,000 and above. That is higher than PFM because the material and the lab work cost more. If you want a zirconia crown in Nepal, ask which brand of zirconia the lab uses. Branded material usually costs more.

eMax crown price in Nepal

An eMax crown is made of glass-ceramic. Light passes through it a little like a real tooth, so it often looks the most natural. Dentists like it for front teeth.

It is not as strong as zirconia, so it’s less common on back teeth. The eMax crown price in Nepal starts from about NPR 20,000, which is close to zirconia, sometimes a bit higher.

Ceramic crown price in Nepal

“Ceramic” is a loose word. It can mean porcelain, zirconia, or eMax. When a clinic quotes a ceramic crown price in Nepal, ask which one they mean. A quote that only says “ceramic” is hard to compare.

Other crown types

Gold and metal crowns are very strong, but they show, so few people choose them now. Resin crowns cost less and wear out faster. They are mostly used as temporary crowns. We could not find reliable listed prices for these, so they are not in the table.

Dental bridge cost in Nepal

A bridge fills a gap by joining crowns. A crown sits on the tooth at each side, and a false tooth hangs between them. Because of this, clinics often price a bridge per unit, so the dental crown price in Nepal also sets the cost of a bridge. A bridge with three units costs about as much as three crowns made from the same material.

For example, if a zirconia unit is listed at NPR 18,000, three units come to around NPR 54,000 before X-rays and other steps. That is only a worked example, not a quote. To see how bridges stack up against implants, read our post on dental bridge vs dental implant.

What affects the dental crown price in Nepal?

Six things move a quote up or down.

The material

Metal-ceramic is the cheapest. Zirconia and eMax cost more. Name-brand materials cost more again.

The lab and the technology

Some clinics send crowns to an outside lab. Others have their own. A few use intraoral scanning, a small camera that scans your teeth in place of putty, and some can make a crown on site in one visit. Better tools can raise the price, and they can also give a tighter fit.

Treatment needed before the crown

A crown needs a healthy tooth underneath. A deep cavity or an infection may mean a root canal first. A badly broken tooth may need a build-up or even an extraction. These steps are billed separately, so ask for the full treatment plan and not only the crown price.

The tooth and the case

A back tooth takes more work than a front tooth. A case with several crowns may need multiple appointments. More chair time means a higher cost.

The dentist

An experienced dentist may charge more. A specialist such as a prosthodontist, who focuses on crowns, bridges, and dentures, often charges more still.

The clinic

Rent, equipment, and sterilization all play a part. A price that is much lower than the others raises a question. Ask what is included, such as the X-ray, the temporary crown, and a follow-up visit.

What happens during a crown treatment

Most crowns take two visits, one or two weeks apart.

  1. The dentist checks the tooth and takes an X-ray. Some cases need a 3D scan.
  2. You get local anesthesia, and the dentist trims the tooth to make space for the crown.
  3. The dentist takes an impression or a scan, which the lab uses to make the crown.
  4. A temporary crown covers the tooth while you wait.
  5. At the second visit, the dentist checks the fit and your bite, then cements the final crown.

The tooth may feel sore for a day or two. Call your dentist if the pain stays or your bite feels too high.

Crown, root canal, or implant: which one do you need?

These treatments often work together, but each has its own job.

A crown covers a tooth that is still there. A root canal cleans the inside of an infected tooth, and that tooth usually needs a crown afterwards. The root canal is billed on top of the dental crown price in Nepal, so ask for both figures. A dental implant replaces a tooth that is gone, and a crown sits on top of it.

If you have missing teeth, a bridge or an implant can replace them. With multiple missing teeth, your dentist may suggest several implants or a longer bridge. You can read about implants on our dental implants page.

Dental crown price in Nepal FAQ

What is the dental crown price in Nepal for a single crown?

Based on starting prices listed in early 2026, a PFM crown costs about NPR 6,000 to 13,000. A zirconia crown costs about NPR 18,000 to 25,000 and above. An eMax crown starts from about NPR 20,000, and a porcelain crown costs about NPR 15,000 to 25,000. What you pay depends on the material and the tooth.

Which type of crown is best?

It depends on the tooth and your budget. Zirconia is strong, so it is a common pick for back teeth. eMax looks very close to a natural tooth, so dentists like it at the front. PFM costs less and works well when budget matters. Your dentist can match the type to your bite.

Are premium materials like 3M zirconia worth the extra money?

Sometimes. Premium materials, such as branded zirconia, are made to a tight standard and tend to fit and wear well. They also cost more. 3M is a company that makes dental materials, and a crown made from a branded zirconia block usually costs more than one from a generic block, so expect it to be at or above the zirconia range of about NPR 18,000 to 25,000. We could not find a reliable price in Nepal for one brand, so ask your clinic which brand it uses and what it charges. For a tooth you chew with every day, the extra cost may be worth it. For a tooth that gets little force, a basic crown can be enough.

How does the dental crown price in Nepal change for 3, 4, or 5 crowns?

Take the price of one crown and multiply it by the number you need, then add any extra steps. At the lowest listed starting price, that is about NPR 18,000, 24,000, and 30,000 for 3, 4, and 5 PFM crowns, or NPR 54,000, 72,000, and 90,000 for zirconia. These are worked examples, not quotes. Some clinics lower the price when you need several, and some don’t. Ask for the full total in writing.

Is a dental crown painful?

Not during the work, because the tooth is numb. Some soreness can show up for a day or two after the numbness fades, and chewing may feel odd at first. A tooth that keeps hurting needs a check, so call your dentist.

How long does a dental crown last?

A PFM crown often lasts around 10 to 15 years. Zirconia can last as long or longer. Some crowns last 20 years, but many have worn down, chipped, or come loose by then, or the gum has pulled back from the edge. None of this is a promise. Grinding your teeth, chewing ice, and poor cleaning all shorten a crown’s life. Your dentist can check it at your regular visits and replace it if needed.

Can a tooth rot under a crown?

Yes. A crown covers the tooth, but it does not stop decay. Germs can get in at the edge where the crown meets the gum, and the natural tooth under it can get a cavity. Brush and floss around the crown, and see your dentist every six months. An X-ray can show decay that you can’t see. The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research has more on tooth decay.

Can I get a crown in a single visit?

Some clinics offer same-day crowns. They use a machine that makes the crown while you wait, so you can finish in a single visit. Most clinics still use two visits because the crown is made in a lab. Ask the clinic what it offers and whether the price is different.

Does dental insurance cover crowns?

It depends on the plan. Some pay part of the cost, and some pay none. Ask the clinic for a written estimate you can send to your insurer before you start.

Is a cap better than a crown?

They are the same thing. “Cap” is the everyday word. Your dentist will say crown.

What is the cheapest way to replace missing teeth?

A removable partial denture is usually the cheapest way to replace missing teeth. A bridge costs more, and an implant usually costs the most up front. The cheapest option may not fit your mouth, though. A bridge needs healthy teeth on both sides of the gap, and an implant needs enough bone. Your dentist can tell you which ones are possible.

Can international patients get crowns in Nepal?

Yes. Many people who live abroad plan their dental work when they visit Nepal. Because a crown usually needs multiple appointments, plan a stay of at least a week or two. Send your X-rays ahead of time if you can, and ask the clinic for a written plan and price before you travel.

Is a dental crown safe, and are crowns a bad idea?

Yes, it is a common and well-tested treatment. A few people are allergic to certain metals, which is rare, so tell your dentist about any allergy before the work starts. A crown is a good idea when a tooth needs one. There are reasons to think twice, though. The tooth has to be trimmed, and that can’t be undone. A crown costs more than a filling, and in some cases the tooth later needs a root canal. If a filling would do the job, ask your dentist whether you need a crown at all. A second opinion is fine.

Can I eat normally with a crown?

Yes, once the numbness is gone and the cement has set. Go easy on hard or sticky food for the first day, and use a temporary crown with care until the final one is on. After that, you can eat as before. Try not to chew ice or bones.
